Over Being Overwhelmed

Have you ever felt like life never slows down? I know that I have, and I often feel like this. You feel like there is no time to catch your breath and life is throwing one thing after another at you. In these moments it is often hard to feel that God is working on your behalf or that He is for you. Believe it or not, He is, and while He gives us each a unique calling and desire in this life, God does not call us to be busy. I know what some of you are thinking right now. Well Jesus gave me kids and they keep me busy, or Jesus gave me this job that takes up all my time. You would be right, He certainly did, but He did not call you to be so busy that you sacrifice the most important relationship in life. Which is your relationship with Jesus. He is the ultimate giver of all things, and He loves to give blessings to His children, but we cannot let these gifts become greater than the Giver of them.

I want to direct your attention to Matthew 11:28 which states, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” I want to make sure you get that. HE will give you rest. You can rest in Jesus, but to do that, you must go to Him. He is always there waiting, and He never leaves us, we just have to call out to Him. It is hard to have a relationship with someone when you never talk to them. The same principle applies to your relationship with Jesus. I am guilty of not praying and spending time with Jesus as I should, and it is something that I must constantly work at. I would encourage you to call out to Jesus in the everyday moments of life. This can be in the shower, car, while doing chores, or any other ordinary moment of life.

Feeling overwhelmed is something that everyone will experience at one point or another. In these moments of stress and feeling the weight of life, it is so important to ground yourself in God’s word and your time with Him. If you are not grounded in what Jesus has to say about these stressful moments, how will you know how to fight these feelings with the truth?

To the one who feels that life is always overwhelming, bring Godly community into your life. What does that mean? Surround yourself with people that can encourage you, pray for you, and remind you that God is in control of it all. If you feel that what I have talked about today applies to your life, reach out to God today and begin carving out time for the only one that can bring true peace into your life. If it is something you care about, it is worth praying about.
